Inexpensive Entertainment

December 19th, 2008 |

This blog seems to be becoming a monthly one lately.  I wanted to share a tip for where to find cheap movie rentals including new releases!  At our WalMart they have what’s called a RedBox when you first enter.  It’s automated to where you go up to a touch screen and use a debit/credit card to rent a movie(s).  You retrieve your movie selection straight from the RedBox and return back into the RedBox.  The rental is $1 per night that you have the movie.  It is now cheaper than BlockBuster!  We usually only rent 1 movie or 2 at the most and return them the next day so we don’t have to pay more than a $1.  If you keep the movie a long time, number 1 you will have one expensive rental on your hands and number 2 they will have you own it after so many days.  This then becomes not a good deal.  So if you just do a one night rental you have a very cheap entertainment filled evening.  Pair the movie with a bag of microwave popcorn and a little extra melted butter and prepare to have fun!

Another Great Cleaning Idea!!!

November 7th, 2008 |

I have yet another great cleaning idea to share.  Instead of buying expensive cleaners to clean your shower(s), try using a small hand held scrub brush, the cheapest shampoo you can possibly find, and some cheap toothpaste.  The toothpaste works great for scouring action and the shampoo is great for scrubbing the walls and floor of the shower.  There are no fumes and it actually smells pleasant.  I used both of them today and they worked great! I know there are products out on the market that are super powerful that you just spray on and you don’t have to scrub much.  However, I’ve found that I’d rather scrub and take care of my health as those harsh cleaners are not good to breathe in or get on your skin.   Happy Scrubbing!

Fabric Softener

November 3rd, 2008 |

Yet another fabric softener idea!  I have found another fabric softener that I like.  I have started using Ultra Purex Fabric Softener for sensitive skin.  It’s inexpensive and it doesn’t leave that residue that others do.  So far the only place I have found it at is Target.  No other place I’ve checked seems to carry it.  I wanted to try it originally because I wanted something that didn’t leave a residue, was easy on sensitive skin, and had a light fragrance.  This is just another option for anyone who is interested in trying it.

Kids Lunches

September 6th, 2008 |

Hi there everyone!  I intended to blog a lot more when I started this, but life continues to stay busy and I don’t always have the time I would like as is the case with most of us. :)  For all of you parents out there who won’t buy lunchables for their kids because they are so unhealthy, I have a healthy alternative.  I went searching to find a container to use for school lunches that I could make my own version of lunchables.  I found the coolest containers through Tupperware!  They have so much cool stuff!  Here is what I found:  Lunch ‘n Things Container on sale for just over$7 normally $11.50 and New Colors/Configuration Feeding Set ( I didn’t get the little cup just the two round containers) the containers were about $9 each and they are divided into 3 sections.  I used the round ones and they work great!  In my opinion, you will save money on getting these instead of buying lunchables.  You can buy a box of crackers of yours choice, inexpensive deli meat (which will be way more than you’d get in an unhealthy lunchable) and get many uses out of that package; I cut 3 slices into triangle shapes and put them into the container section, then I put crackers in another section, and fruit in another.  This way, you can be as creative as you want.  Some days you can use granola (homemade or buy granola cereal and use if for snacks as well or in yogurt).  This way, in my opinion, instead of buying a lunchable with a one time meal, you buy containers that you can reuse and boxes and packages of stuff to save money.

The Lunch ‘n @Things container is a larger rectangle container which you will have to get a cooler/lunch box to fit it in so you can put ice packs with it to keep it cool like you would in a normal sized lunch box.  I would suggest getting something that you can get multiple uses out of.  The container has 4 sections to it; 1 for a juice box, 1 for a regular sized sandwich, and then 2 small sections for snack size foods.  It is also a very cool container!

If you’re in the Daytona Beach area, I would recommend Eileen Wagner @ 2090 So. Nova Rd., Unit AA08.  She has a store stocked with Tupperware and she has a lot of products from which to choose.  You can contact her at 386-316-0768, eileenwagner@cfl.rr.com or go online my.tupperware.com/dbest.  And to top it all off, when you pick up her business card, when yor bring it back for your next purchase, you get 15% off and a special gift!

Until Next Time,

Dishwasher Detergent - Use Less - Save More

August 10th, 2008 |

Hi again, we’re back on the topic of cleaning.  Cleaning your dishes that is. :)  If you don’t want to make your own homemade detergent, then you can do what I do and buy the least expensive liquid detergent and use no more than one Tablespoon between the two compartments in your dishwasher.  That’s right, it takes me about 1 Tablespoon and my dishes come clean.  Don’t forget to fill the dispenser that you normally would put Jet Dry in with vinegar.  This works great for me!  And I save money which I am sure many of you out there would love to do as well.

Hi to all of you who read this blog on a regular basis!  Yes, I’m still here just a bit busy lately.  I would like to give you all a tip for what to do with your old cell phones.  You can check to see if you’re able to sell them at

www.cellforcash.com  whom a friend of mine told me about or you can donate them to soldiers by going online and googling donate cell phones for soldiers and you should be able to find a link to find a drop off location for your cell phones.  And one more thing, if you use this site to sell your old cell phones, please let them know I referred you; and refer your friends, relatives also as you earn a $5 referral.

Storage for accessories

July 24th, 2008 |

Do you need an inexpensive way to keep either boys or girls toys?  I went to Walmart in the sporting goods section; go to the fishing supplies and there are all kinds of containers.  I purchased the small double - flip close one and it can be used to put small toys such as doll shoes, jewelry, legos, or any small pieces that are toys or belong to toys that your children have.  This way they and you can find what they’re looking for (most of the time) without those pieces ending up all over the house or their rooms.  I think I spent less than $2 on a storage container.

Have fun organizing!

Simple Cleaning Solutions

July 14th, 2008 |

I apologize that I haven’t blogged for awhile for those of you who like to check my site regualrly, but as we all know time flies when we get busy.  Today I would like to share simple and inexpensive cleaners for your whole house.  Ingredients to keep on hand at all times:  baking soda, borax (Mule Team Borax is found in a box in the laundry isle of the grocery store I pay under $3 a box), vinegar, essential oils (however many scents or how few scents you wish to have), sponges, lint free cleaning cloths, papertowels, 3% hydrogen peroxide, scrubbing brush, old toothbrushes (great for corners and crevices that are hard to reach with anything else).  Plastic spray bottles are found in your grocery store and are very cheap.

Mirrors and glass:  spray bottle with vinegar and water

all purpose cleaner:  baking soda, vinegar, and water - mix all in a spray bottle

sinks, tubs, showers:  flip top plastic container with borax (found for under $2 in cooking plastic section at grocery store) you can also use baking soda if you prefer, but borax is more scouring for tougher jobs in my opinion.  After rinsing out the shower after scrubbing, spray it down with 3% hydrogen peroxide to kill germs.  It’s great and doesn’t have a strong odor.  Be careful to not get it on your clothes (unless you are wearing ones that you clean in) because hydrogen peroxide works like bleach as you can use it instead of bleach for whites when doing laundry.

toilets: sprinkle some borax and scrub with toilet brush.  Put a cup of vinegar in the tank each time you clean to help break up build up.

floors:  vinegar, water, and essential oil (fragrance of your choice)

countertops and stovetops: keep baking soda in a flip top plastic container under your sink for this purpose and just sprinkle and it works as a scratch free scouring powder.

These are fume free cleaners, are inexpensive, and work great.  I’m through spending money on cleaners that are expensive and make me sick, due to fumes, when I clean. Just like anything though, please keep borax and mixtures out of reach of children.  Be sure to label all containers with ingredients and what they are for!!!

I hope this helps all of you to stay healthy without fumes and save money while maintaining cleanliness in your homes.

Homemade Fabric Softener

June 28th, 2008 |

For all of you who have been searching for an easy inexpensive fabric softener that is homemade and doesn’t leave that yucky residue in your washer’s softener dispenser…hereit is!  I use a 1 liter bottle, fill it up with white vinegar and add 60 drops of your choice of essential oil.  There are many fragrances to choose from and you can add less or more to your mixture to suit your nose!  Vinegar is great for getting rid of odors too!  You can use it plain, but I personally don’t care for the smell of vinegar by itself.  However, when I have had to use it by itself, by the time a load goes through the washer and dryer, I don’t notice a vinegar smell.  So you can use it by itself if you prefer or are out of essential oil.

I  hope this makes your laundry experience a little more pleasant and inexpensive!
