A Creative Ways Not To Waste

May 28th, 2008 |

I don’t know how you all shop, but I buy things that are clearance sometimes, or food that is placed in discount warehouses due to possible unpopularity, they want to sell it before it expires and so on.  Most of the time I find good deals and the food quality and taste are just as good if I bought it at top dollar.  There was one occasion where I purchased some fruity, chewy, granola bars and they didn’t taste all that great.  Being the savvy shopper and saver that I am, I didn’t want to be wasteful and throw them out.  So here is what I did.  I came up with something similar to rice krispie bars.  I melted some butter and marshmallows in a pan over low to medium heat and then I added fruity pebbles cereal (generic) and I used a food processor to chop up the granola bars and then I mixed those in as well.  I made them into bars and they actually were edible! :)  I was so thrilled with the thought of not wasting food.  You really can save a lot of money on food if you will make the most of what you have.

Other things I do to not throw food out are as follows:

When you have leftover chicken from roast, grilling, baking, pull it off the bone into pieces and either put in ziplock bags or foodsaver bags (if you own a foodsaver) and label them and put them in the freezer.  You can pull them out to make BBQ chicken sandwiches, tacos, burritos, taco soup, chicken salad or some other dish you prefer.  You can do the same with beef, pork, turkey or meat of your preference.  I don’t know about you or your family, but after a couple days of leftovers we get tired of the same thing so I save it, freeze it, and it makes for a quick meal when I don’t have a lot of time to cook.  It also is nice when I don’t feel like cooking much after a long day.  Also, if you keep frozen vegetables on hand, you can pull out one of your bags of meat and just do a simple meal of some meat with vegetables on the side.  So many of us just don’t have the time to fix a seven course meal every night.  Nor can we afford to!

I hope you all find these tips helpful and I hope they help you save some money and eat well!

The Florida Outpouring

May 21st, 2008 |

I was watching The Florida Outpouring live tonight on God TV and Todd Bentley was talking about people not giving up on their healing.  It really spoke to me about pressing through until you get a breakthrough with whatever you need a breakthrough in.  People may think you’re crazy for believing for some of the things you’re believing for, but I say “I would rather believe and receive what I’m believing God for than care about what people think of what I’m believing for.”  May you be encouraged to press through!

get a little crazy
Frank Gresham
May 20, 2008

To the beloved of Christ,  My greatest people in the bible are regular people who pressed in to receive or followed by faith to receive. People like the woman with the issue of blood, Elisha who wouldn’t leave Elijah even when Elijah told him not to follow.  The wee little man in a tree, John who served three different ministries in less than 5 years, these are regular people, not divine who pressed into Christ, The woman who served the prophet her last meal.  So many regular people pressed into The Lord and received great reward.             Last night as I was woke from a great sleep, the Lord said, “You desire to receive from me; then press in.” As He was saying this I was realizing this was not just a statement to me but to you also. As He was saying this I knew that we no longer claim things, lay hands on things and do crazy faith things.  When we were first saved and our car would not start we would lay hands on it and it would start, our house would go into one of those frenzy moods and we would begin worshipping, praising and speaking to the air. (Our families thought “oh Lord they are back at it.”  But the air would change.  When we desired something in our ministry we would lay claim to it, march around it, put oil on it…  It sounds funny now but if you remember IT WORKED. You don’t have because you don’t ask! Ask me anything in My name and I will do it… This is a quote from Jesus himself… why don’t we believe… help my unbelief! Praise the Lord,  get a little crazy it is OK.

In Christ Pastor Frank

Swimming tips

May 14th, 2008 |

It’s been a few days and I haven’t blogged; our lives get so busy and the time passes faster than we can keep track of it.

Today I’d like to share a tip on teaching kids to swim.  We’ve been working with our kids and one thing I found to be very helpful are those “noodles” that float in the pool.  They come in a variety of colors and you can find them at Wal-Mart, CVS and other places I would imagine.  My daughter hangs onto one and swims from one end of the pool to the other.   The kickboards are also a great tool as well.  Both of these appear to be good to build up their leg strength and then they can work more on their upper body.

Caution:  As with any swimming aid, DO NOT LEAVE THE CHILD UNATTENDED!  We need to assist our children in learning and be a participant to help them.  We should not rely on swim aids and be wise for the safety of our children!  The swim aids are just that, aids and not intended to keep the children safe, that is our job as parents.

Happy Swimming!  Be Safe!

Creative ways to get children to take vitamins

May 7th, 2008 |

There are a few creative ways to get vitamins into kids when they don’t want to take them.  One thing I do is I buy the unsweetened apple sauce and the ascorbic acid (vitamin c) at the health food store.  I add the ascorbic acid in powder form and also some stevia.  Mix it together and they get more C than they would in a chewable.  It’s especially helpful when they are sick and I need to give them higher amounts than just a chewable.  You can give 5,000mg in 1 tsp., depending on the brand of ascorbic acid you purchase.  I also use plain yogurt to mix C in and I add stevia to that as well.

Another way you can hide the vitamins in food is to take a coffee grinder and grind the vitamins up in a fine powder.  Mix it in smoothies, make smoothie popsicles, mashed sweet potatoes, but make sure that whatever you mix it in, it has enough flavor to hide the taste or blend the taste of whatever vitamins you are adding.  Just get creative!

Keep Healthy!

Homemade Dishwasher Detergent

May 1st, 2008 |

The following recipe is from a mom from my daughter’s ballet class.  I have tried it already and it really does work.  I also put vinegar instead of jet dry in the dispenser and the combination of the dish detergent and the use of vinegar works great!!

Make Your Own Dish Detergent

Ready to trade your over-priced and chemical-laden dishwasher detergent for something better? Then, try this simple recipe for homemade detergent:

What You Need:

  • 1 Tablespoon Borax
  • 1 Tablespoon baking soda

What You Do:

Mix the Borax and baking soda together. Then, add to your dishwasher’s detergent compartment, and run as usual.

Why This Works:

Borax and baking soda are both natural disinfectants and mild abrasives – just what you need to blast away stuck on food and germs. In fact, you may be interested to learn that Borax is a common ingredient in many commercial detergents.

Benefits of Making Your Own Dishwasher Detergent:

  • inexpensive
  • no harsh chemicals
  • does not emit chlorine gas like other commercial detergents
  • effective sanitizer
  • effective stain remover
  • effective water softener
  • environmentally-friendly (phosphate-free)

Tips and Warnings:

1) Borax sells under the name 20 Mule Team, and can be found on the laundry aisle.

2) Save time by making up big batches of dishwasher detergent, consisting of equal parts Borax and baking soda.

3) Keep prepared detergent out of the reach of children and pets.
