What do you do with those extra fast food packets such as ketchup, dressings, salt, etc.? Do you throw them away? Well, if you do stop it. They are great to pack in kids lunches for school, or picnics and so on. They work great and this way we can all use everything we possibly can without being wasteful. “Waste Not Want Not” as the saying goes. There is the tip for today!

Every now and then I would like to help all of you out by recommending people to you that may be able to help you with their skills. I usually like the idea of getting references from other people about who to hire or use for certain jobs that I need done. In this day and time it is hard to find hardworking, trustworthy people if someone doesn’t refer them to you. Today’s referral is the Handyman To Help; Michael Doran is a friend of ours and he is able to help out with any home improvements that you need and also those handyman jobs that need to get done. He is trustworthy, very reliable, and will do an excellent job for you. He may be contacted at: 479-366-0974 or email: mike_doran222@hotmail.com. He is available to work only in the Daytona Beach, FL area. Keep checking back for more referrals!

This was an impromptu recipe that turned out yummy. Take 2 lbs. hamburger and fry and drain grease (I also always rinse mine in a handheld strainer), add to the hamburger,  1 can stewed tomatoes (cut up tomatoes into smaller pieces), Saute an onion and then add it to the hamburger and tomato. Mix all together, put in a casserole dish and sprinkle cheddar cheese on top. Put in a preheated oven at 350F for about 20 minutes. Take out and let set for approximately 5 minutes before serving. Serve and you may add the following on top of each serving: Mayo, sweet relish, mustard or anything else you like on a cheeseburger.
 Enjoy!

I found a great place online for this detergent recipe. I made some and it turned out good. It seems to work fine so far. It is very economical too!

Yes, I happen to be on the search for ways to save money on cleaning supplies. I have found some more information and a recipe for homemade laundry detergent. I have not yet tried it, but I purchased all the ingredients. I hope it works, I’ll keep you posted. :) Just a little side note, if you have family members that have sensitivity to detergents, it’s always good in my opinion to try one load of laundry first. Then if there is no reaction by anyone, then I would proceed to use those ingredients. If you don’t have the time or want to deal with the mess of making your own cleaners, Shaklee has a great variety of environmentally safe household cleaners as well as other products. If you’re interested in this and would like to inquire please email me at mooreoutoflife@gmail.com. Happy washing!

I had notes on garlic being good for congestion and so I thought I would research it further. A lot of times I take notes on things I read or talk to people about, but I may not put down detail. I like to look a lot of things up so I wanted to share with you all what I found on garlic. Enjoy and I hope it helps someone!

Have you heard how wonderful vitamin C is for you? I never knew how something so inexpensive yet so effective could be? And why hadn’t I heard much about it? It seems that we hear here and there that vitamin C is good for colds but some might say I tried that and it didn’t work. Well, what I discovered a few years ago was that there has been extensive study done on vitamin C . And did you know that there is actually a Vitamin C Foundation?!? Incredible or I believe you’ll think so when you go check out the site for yourself! I personally take about 6,000mg a day! Yes a day! When it’s allergy season I may take up to 12,000mg or more. I get through allergy season and hardly notice it was even there. As soon as I start getting a little stuffy, I take 3 to 4,000mg. And from what I’ve learned it takes 3 to 4 hours for the body to use up the C. It is a safe and natural alternative to drugs. It is water soluable and your body will not build up a tolerance to it. You may ask how do I know if I’m taking enough? Well, you asked so here goes. Unfortunately there is not pleasant way to put this, but you will get diarrhea and it’s time to cut back. You want to take it only up to bowel tolerance (loose stools) yes it’s fun talking to people about C and mentioning that to them. But hey it works so don’t knock it right? It’s also great when you feel a cold coming on. I love the fact that I can give it to my kids instead of allergy drugs. I buy the chewables that are 500mg a tablet in fruity flavors and that way I can get them to take a few thousand if they’re having sign/symptoms of allergies or cold. It’s wonderful to know that when they get around people or other kids that I don’t have to get uneasy thinking how unpleasant it is going to be to have them be sick. It’s so hard having sick children because you can’t do a whole lot; but now I can and I am so thankful. I have run into some challenges getting my kids to take certain vitamins, but they have all kinds of different forms and varieties of vitamins online and at the healthfood stores. So if you’re diligent enough to keep trying, it’ll be well worth the benefits of keeping your family healthy.
Let me share for example some of the forms of vitamin C I have used and continue to use with my kids and how I get them to take stuff that might taste bad or they just decide one day they don’t want to take a certain vitamin. I have on hand the Ascorbic Acid (which is what vitamin C is for those who aren’t familiar with it) and I buy Stevia ( a NATURAL sweetener) found also at the health food stores. I put about 1/4 tsp of Ascorbic Acid, 1/8 tsp Stevia, and add water and mix it all together; it tastes kind of similar to lemonade. We call this a “vitamin C drink” at our house. When the kids were a little smaller they would ask for a vitamin C drink so it obviously tasted good to them. Another way I give it to my daughter (who challenges me on the vitamins at times) is I have the buffered C which for those who have a sensitive stomach can take this if the regular C is too hard on them; I make her a “hot chocolate milk” drink every morning. This drink contains warmed up milk, a little chocolate syrup, chocolate whey protein shake (with stevia in the protein - no artificial sweeteners) and some buffered C. I shake it all up together in a sippy cup and she drinks it all gone. She can’t even taste the C because of the shake and syrup. I go easy on the syrup because too much sugar is not a good thing.
Also, if your child will swallow capsules then that’s another possibility. My daughter, at 3, one day just decided to start swallowing these kids omega vitamins. They’re these small little balls and she was fascinated and thrilled that she could swallow them once she tried. Now my 5 year old still hasn’t conquered that one, but one day he’ll get it too. In my opinion whatever way I can get it into them so they won’t be sick then that’s what I’m going to do.
It beats having to go to the doctor and spending all this money on the visit and drugs. Now don’t get me wrong we all need to take our kids to the doctor for their regular checkups and there are times they may get sick that they need to go. Doctors are there for a reason and we do need to use wisdom in all things. What I am saying is that you can decrease the number of times you have to take them if you will make the effort to give them vitamins and make sure they are eating healthy. For example: There are times that no matter how hard you try and your kids aren’t feeling good and they just won’t take their vitamins or enough of them for a season. Both of my kids had allergies and they didn’t get enough C. The drainage from the symptoms of the allergies caused ear infections and they both had to be on antibiotics to clear that up. You don’t want to let that go because their health is important. Sometimes I play a game with my daughter to get her to take the C chewables. I’ll set them on the counter and say let’s see who can get them first (and then I of course, let her get them). Then she holds out her hand and I pretend like I’m going to still try to get them and she puts them in her mouth and chews them. Yeah I was successful at getting her to take them. Then there are times it doesn’t work and she just hands them back to me. What I’m saying is keep trying and be creative. Your child’s health is worth it. I’ve went on long enough for now. Please go click on the link to the vitamin C foundation and read about the benefits and you will be amazed! Also, check out the links to some of the places I get vitamins from. Also, I would recommend Shaklee products, if you’re interested in these you may contact me at the following:
Mooreoutoflife@gmail.com and I will share more information with you.
That’s it for now! Be healthy!
